Life often keeps married couples too busy to spend quality time together. This is problematic, because the less time a couple spends together, the more they naturally grow apart. Wei Yin Wong, writer for suite101.com, offers several ideas for couples to improve, and even strengthen, their marriage by reconnecting with each other in just 10 minutes a day.Improve and strengthen your marriage in just ten minutes a day.
Connect with your spouse as soon as you both arrive home from work. This means putting everything else aside which includes chores, children, work, dinner, etc. Choose a place in the house where the both of you are relaxed and comfortable.
Help your children understand that this is time for adults only. Your ten minutes together should be free of distraction and interruption. After all, happy parents mean happy children. During this time, Wong recommends sharing a light snack and maybe a glass of wine. This will help you both to relax from the stresses of your day.
Discuss only good and positive things. Don’t use this time to whine and complain about your day, which will only bring a negative energy to your time together. Rather, talk about events you are looking forward to, good news at work or about the progress your children are making in school. You may just want to take this time to express your appreciation for your spouse’s contribution to the family. Also, sometimes it is good to just bask in the sound of silence together and just take in the time you have together.
After your ten minutes together are up, Wong recommends that you go on with your normal evening activities. She remarks that couples are usually happier and more relaxed throughout the rest of the night after taking ten minutes to relax together.
Try this ten minute time-out a few times and see if it improves your marriage. Ten minutes may really help you and your spouse to get closer each day.
